Although it is run by the Comédie-Française, this slightly lesser-known venue has a less austere image, and often stages more modern works. Founded in 1913, the Vieux-Colombier has often been host to premieres of works by the greatest playwrights of our time, as well as to more than a few intellectual battles. The theater was acquired by the French government in 1986 and beautifully renovated in 1993, and it is one of the three theaters of the Comédie Française.
