Inaugurated with an exhibition of the famous Henry Matisse, the Galerie Lelong was established in 1947. Another office was opened in Zurich in the 1960s and in New York in 1979. Over the years the gallery has represented big league 20th century artists like Francis Bacon and Joan Miro. The gallery has also published a catalogue of paintings by Joan Miro and keeps publishing the collections of writings by artists as well as various prints. Director Daniel Lelong has done much to ensure the consistency of this reputed art gallery.
