"This annual event takes place throughout France on the weekend closest to September 15. Admission to museums is free and many other buildings of interest normally closed to the public open their doors for the occasion. For example, Parisians had the opportunity to visit parts of the Elyse (home to the President) and the Matignon (home to the Prime Minister). Naturally this is a popular event and places do tend to get very busy! The Paris tourist office can provide information about which venues are open to the public in any given year.
